How to Install a Casa Vieja Journey Ceiling Fan

If you are looking for a stylish and efficient ceiling fan for your home, you might want to consider the Casa Vieja Journey ceiling fan. This fan comes in two finishes: brushed nickel and oil-rubbed bronze, and features five blades, a remote control, and a 52-inch blade span. In this article, we will show you how to install a Casa Vieja Journey ceiling fan in a few easy steps.

What You Will Need

Before you start the installation, make sure you have the following tools and materials:

  • A Casa Vieja Journey ceiling fan kit, which includes the fan motor, blades, remote receiver, remote control, mounting bracket, canopy, downrod, and hardware.
  • A Phillips screwdriver
  • A wire stripper
  • A wire connector
  • A ladder
  • A drill and drill bits (optional)
  • A metal outlet box and screws (optional)

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

What You Will Need

The first and most important step is to turn off the power to the ceiling fan circuit at the main electrical panel. This will prevent any electric shock or fire hazard during the installation. You can use a circuit tester to make sure the power is off.

Step 2: Remove the Old Ceiling Fan or Light Fixture

If you are replacing an existing ceiling fan or light fixture, you will need to remove it first. Carefully disconnect the wires and unscrew the mounting bracket from the outlet box. Lower the fixture and set it aside.

Step 3: Install the Outlet Box and Mounting Bracket

Step 2: Remove the Old Ceiling Fan or Light Fixture

If you are installing the fan on a new location, you will need to install a metal outlet box that is UL-listed and marked “acceptable for fan support”. You can use a drill and screws to attach the outlet box to a ceiling joist or a wood brace. Make sure the outlet box is securely fastened and level.

Next, you will need to install the mounting bracket that comes with the fan kit. The mounting bracket is the metal plate that supports the fan motor. Align the holes on the bracket with the holes on the outlet box and use screws to secure it in place.

Step 4: Assemble the Fan Motor and Downrod

Step 3: Install the Outlet Box and Mounting Bracket

Now you are ready to assemble the fan motor and downrod. The downrod is the metal rod that connects the fan motor to the mounting bracket. Depending on your ceiling height, you can use either a 4-inch or a 6-inch downrod that comes with the fan kit.

To assemble the fan motor and downrod, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the canopy cover and canopy ring from the downrod by loosening the set screws.
  2. Thread the lead wires from the fan motor through the downrod.
  3. Align the holes on the downrod with the holes on the fan motor collar and insert a clevis pin.
  4. Secure the clevis pin with a cotter pin.
  5. Tighten the set screws on the downrod.

Step 5: Hang the Fan Motor

Step 4: Assemble the Fan Motor and Downrod

The next step is to hang the fan motor on the mounting bracket. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Lift the fan motor and hook it onto the mounting bracket using the ball-end of
    the downrod.
  2. Make sure the ball is properly seated in
    the groove of
    the bracket.
  3. Rotate
    the fan motor until
    the notch on
    the ball aligns with
    the tab on
    the bracket.

Step 6: Connect
the Wires

The next step is to connect
the wires from
the fan motor to
the wires from
the outlet box and
the remote receiver. The remote receiver is
the device that allows you to control
the fan speed and light with
the remote control. To connect
the wires, follow these steps:

  1. Locate
    the remote receiver
